ROCKFORD, Michigan (August 6, 2024) – The 92nd annual USA Softball Men’s Major Fast Pitch National Championship concluded Sunday with the NY Gremlins claiming their fourth consecutive and ninth overall National Championship title. The Gremlins dominated the tournament, securing a 13-0 shutout victory over the Omma Tigres in the championship game. With a perfect 5-0 record, the Gremlins outscored their opponents 47-4 over the course of the tournament, including three run-rule victories.
The Omma Tigres, despite an early loss, mounted an impressive comeback. After a defeat in their opening game, they won seven consecutive matches, including a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Hill United Chiefs to reach the final. Despite their strong performance, the Tigres ultimately finished as the runner-up in the tournament.
The Gremlins’ undefeated streak included two shutout wins, and their lineup posted an impressive .357 batting average and .690 slugging percentage. They totaled 46 hits, including seven doubles and 12 home runs. Erick Ochoa led the team with an outstanding .846 batting average, contributing six of the team’s home runs, while Cole Evans posted a .500 average.
On the mound, Jack Besgrove was dominant, finishing with a 0.33 ERA and leading the tournament with 33 strikeouts. His performance was critical in securing the championship title for the Gremlins.
Among the standout players for the Gremlins were Nick Mullins and Erick Ochoa, both of whom are seasoned members of the U.S. Men’s National Team (MNT). Mullins, a key presence behind the plate, and Ochoa, a force offensively, played crucial roles in the team’s championship run.
A total of 18 teams competed at the Meijer Sports Complex in Rockford, Michigan, continuing the tradition of elite Men’s Fast Pitch competition. Since its inception at the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago, the Men’s Major Fast Pitch National Championship has been held in 19 states and remains a historic event in the world of softball. The NY Gremlins’ victory adds another chapter to their storied legacy in USA Softball history.
