CHENGDU, China — Adverse weather conditions led to the cancellation of the gold medal game at The World Games 2025, resulting in Team USA and Japan being declared Co-Champions. This marks the first gold medal for the U.S. Men’s National Team in over 35 years, their previous triumph coming at the 1988 ISF World Championship.
Dominant Performance by Team USA
Team USA finished the tournament undefeated with a 4-0 record, outscoring opponents 42-8 and posting a .417 team batting average. The team secured victories over Singapore, Canada, Australia, and Venezuela, amassing 40 hits and 27 RBIs. Three of their wins were achieved under the run-rule.
Offensive Leaders
Erick Ochoa led the offense with a .600 batting average, followed closely by Jonathan Lynch (.556), Yusef Davis (.556), and Blaine Milheim (.462). The team hit five home runs during the tournament, with Davis, Tyler Johnson, Lynch, Milheim, and Ochoa each contributing one.
Pitching Excellence
On the mound, Marco Diaz, Cody Gibbons, and Brad Kilpatrick combined for 25 strikeouts while allowing only seven earned runs over 20 innings. Diaz led the pitching staff with 15 strikeouts, Gibbons added seven, and Kilpatrick contributed three.
All-World Team Honors
Three players earned All-World Team recognition: Davis, Lynch, and Ochoa. Ochoa led the tournament in batting average (.600) and on-base percentage (.692), ranking second in hits with six. Zac Shaw distinguished himself with three stolen bases. Davis tied for most doubles with two and finished second in slugging percentage (1.000). Diaz led the tournament in both wins (2) and ERA (1.27).
Historic Achievement
With this gold medal, Team USA becomes the only national team to medal in three consecutive world events, securing gold at the 2022 WBSC World Cup, the 2025 WBSC World Cup, and now the 2025 World Games.
