The U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) claimed the gold medal at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record. After a dramatic 10-inning, 7-6 playoff win over Japan, Team USA defeated Chinese Taipei 5-0 to secure the top spot on the podium. The Eagles outscored opponents 32-6 over the tournament, capturing their fourth consecutive World Games title, adding to previous wins in Santa Barbara (1981), London (1985), and Birmingham (2022).
USA 7, Japan 6 — Playoff Round
Team USA’s offense came alive in the playoff against Japan, tallying 14 hits with eight players recording at least one. Janae Jefferson led the way with a 4-for-5 performance, while Maya Brady, Jayda Coleman, and Tiare Jennings each added two hits. Rachel Garcia pitched 7.1 innings with 11 strikeouts before Kelly Maxwell entered in relief.
The game was a back-and-forth battle, typical of USA–Japan matchups. Jennings opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning, giving the U.S. a 2-0 lead. Japan answered with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage. Skylar Wallace tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. After a scoreless sixth and seventh, Japan briefly regained the lead in the 10th, but Jefferson’s RBI single tied it again. Jennings delivered a bases-loaded walk-off single to secure the 7-6 victory.
USA 5, Chinese Taipei 0
Team USA closed the tournament with a 5-0 win over Chinese Taipei. The Eagles recorded 11 hits, including multi-hit games from Tiare Jennings (2-for-4) and Amanda Lorenz (2-for-2). Megan Faraimo dominated on the mound, striking out 10 over seven innings while allowing just three hits and no runs.
The scoring began in the second inning when Sahvanna Jaquish hit a three-run homer to put the U.S. ahead 3-0. Skylar Wallace added a solo home run in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-0. Faraimo and the defense closed out the game with two strikeouts and a routine pop-up, securing the gold medal.
Tournament Summary
Team USA finished the 2025 World Games with a flawless 5-0 record, outscoring opponents 32-6 and posting a .344 team batting average. Wins included Chinese Taipei (twice), the Netherlands, China, and Japan, with two victories achieved by run-rule. The team tallied 52 hits and 32 RBIs. Individual Honors
Four Eagles earned All-World Team honors: Coleman, Faraimo, Jefferson, and Jennings. Jennings was named Tournament MVP, leading in hits (8), runs scored (7), and at-bats (20). Jefferson topped the batting average (.615) and hits (8) while ranking second in on-base percentage (.615). Wallace led in home runs (3) and RBIs (8). In the circle, Faraimo posted a perfect 0.00 ERA with two wins and 17 strikeouts, the third-highest total of the tournament.
The gold medal also marks head coach Patty Gasso’s first international title since taking the helm of the U.S. Women’s National Team in February 2025.
